The fishing methods used to catch mulett vary from; gillnets, castnets, liftnets, barrier nets and trammel nets, to artisanal type equipment. Traditional equipment and rods are generally used in Malta.
The mullet can be sold in a variety of ways namely: fresh, dried, salted, frozen or smoked; therefore it is available all year round for the consumer.
Mullet can live up to 16 years in the wild.
Catches in the Mediterranean and in Malta itself are far lower than in the Asian or African regions thus the pressure on the species is low.
